Introduction

We welcome you to Pelere Wood, Carclew Estate, where we provide a safe and immersive outdoor experience in nature. Our activities involve traditional bushcraft skills, tool use, and outdoor education. Safety is our priority, and we require all participants to carefully read, understand, and agree to the terms of this consent form before engaging in any activities.

Safety Rules & Code of Conduct

1. Use of Cutting Tools

Cutting tools, limited to knives, may only be used under the supervision of designated staff.
Participants must follow all safety instructions regarding tool handling and storage.
Tools must only be used for their intended purpose and returned to their designated area after use.
Only tools approved by Nature Room staff may be used.

2. Fire Lighting & Safety

Fires may only be lit in designated areas and under supervision.
Fire safety rules must be followed at all times, including proper handling of firewood and extinguishing procedures.
No flammable liquids or external fire accelerants are permitted.

3. Foraging & Environmental Responsibility

Participants may only forage for materials under direct supervision and approval from staff.
No plants, fungi, or berries may be consumed without explicit guidance.
We follow a leave no trace policy—waste must be disposed of properly.

4. Tree Climbing & Site Structures

Tree climbing is strictly prohibited.
Only designated structures (such as shelters, seating areas, and fire circles) may be used, and only in the manner intended.

5. Personal Safety & First Aid

All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported immediately to a staff member.
Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor conditions.
No consumption of wild plants, mushrooms, or berries is permitted unless under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
Risk assessments are continuously updated to ensure participant safety.

6. Slips, Trips, Falls & Outdoor Risks

Outdoor environments present natural hazards such as uneven terrain, exposed tree roots, and loose ground.
Participants must remain aware of their surroundings and exercise caution at all times.
Insect stings, bites, and other environmental risks are inherent to outdoor activities, and participants should take necessary precautions (e.g., wearing appropriate clothing and using insect repellent).

7. Weather Conditions & Adaptive Risk Assessments

Activities may be adapted or cancelled due to extreme weather conditions for safety reasons.
Participants must be prepared for changing outdoor conditions, including rain, wind, and cold temperatures.
Adaptive risk assessments are always carried out to evaluate and mitigate environmental hazards.

8. Supervision & Behaviour

Participants must follow all instructions given by Nature Room staff.
No rough play, dangerous behaviour, or disruptive actions are allowed.
Participants under 18 must have a parent/guardian’s consent and be accompanied by a responsible adult if required.

9. Emergency Response Plans

Nature Room has emergency response plans in place for incidents requiring medical assistance, fire safety, or environmental hazards.
All staff are trained in first aid and emergency procedures to ensure participant safety.

10. Privacy & Confidentiality

We respect the privacy of all participants, particularly those engaging in therapeutic activities.
Personal information and experiences shared at Nature Room must remain confidential.

I understand that participation in Nature Room activities at Pelere Wood involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:

The potential for minor or serious injury

I acknowledge that Nature Room and its staff take all reasonable precautions to ensure safety but cannot eliminate all risks associated with outdoor activities.

By signing this form, I:

Agree to follow all safety rules and instructions provided by Nature Room staff.
Acknowledge that I participate at my own risk.
Release and hold harmless Nature Room, its staff, and associated parties from any liability, injury, damage, or loss arising from my participation.
Accept full responsibility for my own actions and any consequences thereof.
Understand that failure to comply with these rules may result in removal from activities without a refund.
